Blair County Commissioner John Eichelberger Forms Exploratory Committee for State Senate Bid Eichelberger urged by taxpayers, doctors, pro-family conservatives to challenge liberal incumbent Bob Jubelirer

(Blair Township, PA) – Blair County Commissioner John Eichelberger, announced today he is forming a committee to explore a possible challenge to liberal incumbent state Senator Robert Jubelirer in the 2006 Republican Primary Election.

Eichelberger spoke of the hundreds of encouraging messages he has received from the public over the past few weeks with offers from more than two hundred people to volunteer their time for a potential campaign.

In listening to the concerns of the citizens, he heard clearly that Bob Jubelirer is out of touch with the people he is supposed to represent. “Bob Jubelirer’s liberal record on taxes, spending and social issues is contrary to the bedrock values shared by the residents of the 30th district,” said Eichelberger.

Eichelberger outlined comments he has heard from the people of the district on various issues including: the struggling local job economy and the underemployment of many in the 30th District; the fact that Bob Jubelirer voted for each of the three highest tax increases in the state’s history and has failed to deliver any meaningful tax reform which would keep many area seniors in their homes; the fact that Bob Jubelirer is proudly pro-legal abortion and has voted against even commonsense restrictions on abortion, including choosing to abort based on the sex of the baby, and late term abortions; Bob Jubelirer’s opposition to the reform of lawsuit abuse, which hurts businesses and forces higher health care costs for all working families, even stating, “There is no such thing as a frivolous law suit anymore…”; and the final straw to many in the district was when Jubelirer voted for pay raises for himself and his wife totaling almost $54,000 annually in a district where the average personal income is $23,318.

Eichelberger introduced his mother, Faye Eichelberger from East Freedom and his wife Charlotte Ames Eichelberger.

He promised that if he chooses to run, he would release his and his wife’s personal and business tax records for the past three years, his “Statements of Financial Interests” and his divorce records in the spirit of an open and honest campaign.

Commissioner Eichelberger said that he would make a final decision some time in October.
