Notably absent was Specter’s home-state colleague, Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.), who was in New York for a speaking engagement. Like many Senate Republicans, Santorum campaigned for Specter’s reelection. But he has not publicly supported Specter for the top Judiciary post.

Toomey Endorses Rick Santorum's Senate Campaign

GOP Unified Going into '06 Pittsburgh--Former Congressman Pat Toomey today endorsed the re-election campaign of Senator Rick Santorum.

Said Rep. Toomey, "When I look at the record of the two major candidates in the race for Senate - what they have done for Pennsylvania, what they have done for our nation, their vision for the future - endorsing Rick Santorum is one of the easiest decisions I have ever made. I look forward to passionately campaigning for his re-election."

Senator Santorum said he looks forward to campaigning with Congressman Toomey.

"Throughout his tenure in the United States House of Representatives Pat Toomey was a champion for Pennsylvania families' pocket books," said Senator Santorum. "I am very pleased to have received the endorsement of Congressman Toomey and I look forward to campaigning with him as I lay out my vision for Pennsylvania for the next 6 years."
