Matt May on David Frum--Don't Cite (Specter) RINOs as a source on Miers

Matt May on David Frum

Matt May, a frequent contributor to these pages, casts <http://mattymay.blogspot.com/2005/10/only-thing-thats-missing-is-jerry.html> a jaundiced eye on David Frum’s online petition to withdraw the nomination of Harriet Miers. Along the way, he also zings Frum’s citing of Arlen Spector:

"As of 12:03 a.m. Tuesday morning (EST), the number stood at 4,321 “and counting,” as Mr. Frum puts it. Wake us when, in this nation of over 250 million and over 60 million of those who voted for President Bush in 2004, the number approaches seven figures…. As for his reliance on whatever is coming out of Sen. Arlen Specter’s mouth, Mr. Frum should not forget that Sen. Arlen Specter once relied on “Scottish law” as his basis for a most important vote regarding President Clinton in early 1999. Sen. Specter is as much a conservative as Jimmy Carter. Mr. Frum should remember that Senators like Sen. Specter are probably one of the reasons why Janice Rogers Brown or Michael Luttig was not nominated this time around. When the going gets tough for conservative judicial nominees, the RINOs presently in the majority say “If it’s not Scottish, it’s crap!” Or something like it. "
