AFA of PA ACTION ALERT

June 1, 2007

SPECIAL NOTE:  On May 31st Philadelphia City Council voted to evict the Cradle of Liberty Scout Council from the building they have used rent free since 1928.  That is when the City Council commended the work of the Scouts and told them they could use the half acre of land ‘in pertuity’ or ‘forever.’  I guess ‘forever’ is 79 years!  Click here to read our news release.

Stephen Glassman’s Term will End on June 4th

Open homosexual Stephen Glassman was nominated to be a Commissioner on the PA Human Relations Commission in 2002 by then-Governor Mark Schweiker.  He won unanimous Senate confirmation.  When Ed Rendell became Governor in 2003, he ‘promoted’ Glassman to the chairmanship.  Mr. Glassman’s term expires on June 4th.  We are sure that Governor Rendell will re-nominate Stephen Glassman for another five-year term. The nominee’s name cannot be presented until the term officially ends.

Since 2003 Mr. Glassman has used his position as a bully pulpit to further the homosexual agenda across the Commonwealth.  Consider the following:

q    July 14, 2002 – from a SPARC news release announcing Glassman’s appointment as Chairman of the PHRC:  “We look forward to working with him (Glassman) and the Commission on securing non-discrimination protections for the LGBT community," said Stacey L. Sobel, executive director of the Center for Lesbian and Gay Civil Rights. (Now Equality Advocates Pennsylvania)

q    “Said (Representative Steven) Nickol, who argued for the measure (H.B. 1493- hate crimes bill) on the House floor, ‘Pennsylvania passed a landmark hate-crimes law. I attribute that to a coalition of groups, and (Glassman) was their leader.’

q    In 2004 Stephen Glassman testified in support of a policy change to include ‘sexual orientation’ in the Lansdowne School District.

q    In 2006 Glassman worked with homosexual activists in Swarthmore and Lansdown Boroughs (Delaware County), Easton (Northampton County) and West Chester Borough (Chester County) to get borough council members to add ‘sexual orientation’ and ‘gender identity’ to their human  relations ordinance.

q    Glassman is currently involved in State College (Centre County) and Carlisle (Perry County).  He also is in the process of forming a Berks County Human Relations Commission, which is usually the tool used to get the ordinance changes advanced.

q    Lansdown community activist Kevin Lee says Glassman’s work in small towns such as Lansdowne is an effective way to advance the larger gay-rights movement.

NOTE:  these ordinance changes are not necessary to be in compliance with the law.  The job of the PA Human Relations Commission is to enforce the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act and the Pennsylvania Fair Educational Opportunities Act. Click here to read their Mission Statement.

q    March 1, 2006 – Glassman met with ten homosexual groups that opposed Pennsylvania’s Marriage Protection Amendment

q    March 4, 2007 – Stephen Glassman was the keynote speaker at the "Get Busy Get Equal Central PA" conference in Harrisburg

There’s more, but I believe you get the point!
