PENNSYLVANIA HOSTAGE CRISIS DAY 6

Governor Rendell- ''It's like this is Alice in Wonderland, and the Mad Hatter is in charge.''

Harrisburg - We are now in day 6 and Governor Rendell is still in a power play for his "special" projects.   Governor Rendell stated ''It's like this is Alice in Wonderland, and the Mad Hatter is in charge.''  Translation: Pennsylvania taxpayers are in Wonderland and since is he is the highest ranking public servant in PA that would make the Governor in charge, or more specifically the Mad Hatter.

Governor Rendell might have used a correct analogy.  The character the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland said "You mean you can't take less: it's very easy to take more than nothing."

It seems that the Governor wants more than nothing-he wants it all.

"It troubles us that he is willing to sacrifice the livelihoods of state employees so that he can achieve everything on his wish list at the expense of Pennsylvania taxpayers and hard working families" said Kathryn.

It is interesting the Governor would use Alice and Wonderland in his rhetoric since it is considered to be one of the most characteristic examples of the genre of literary nonsense.

"With Governor Rendell's power play NO ONE WINS except the Governor Rendell: taxpayers lose, state employees lose and families lose" stated English.

The Senate Republican leadership continues to stand up to the Governor stating their budget goals have been consistent: no tax increases, a rate of spending growth near the cost of living, and no gimmicks designed to hide the true cost to taxpayers.

"It appears that the stand-off is not about the budget, it is about a transportation package and an energy package with Governor Rendell's artificial timetables" said English.
