Anglicans for Life Launches Petition to Impact Worldwide Church

Anglicans for Life Launches Petition to Impact Worldwide Church

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 13 /Christian Newswire/ -- Anglicans for Life launched a petition drive today to ask the archbishops and bishops of the Anglican Communion to proclaim that the Anglican Church affirms the sacredness of every life, born and unborn during the June 2008 Lambeth Conference. The petition is being circulated worldwide for both laity and ordained members of the Church to sign. The Lambeth Conference is a meeting of all bishops and archbishops of the Anglican Communion held once every decade.

An analysis of the Lambeth Conference resolutions passed since 1930 shows that the Anglican Communion has consistently upheld the biblical view of the sanctity of life and expressed concern about abortion, but it has never officially declared itself to be 'pro' life. Furthermore, Anglicans for Life would like to see worldwide Anglican support for life issues included in the language of the Anglican Covenant that is presently being formulated.

Anglicans for Life believes that it is time for the Anglican Communion to take a stand concerning the dignity of life. Georgette Forney, President of Anglicans for Life explained, "We need our Archbishops and Bishops to state unequivocally what the Anglican Communion believes regarding life, abortion and euthanasia."

Signatures will be collected through March 2008 and presented to the bishops at the Lambeth Conference along with a proposed resolution to affirm the sanctity of life. Anglicans for Life is circulating the petition through their Chapters, members and online at http://www.anglicansforlife.org/petition2/index.asp. They hope to collect at least 100,000 signatures As the only Anglican/Episcopal life-affirming ministry in the worldwide communion dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia, Anglicans for Life believes it is incumbent on all Anglicans to call for the Church to defend biblical life principles instead of capitulating to the growing cultural acceptance of killing the vulnerable, elderly and unborn.

Anglicans for Life encourages everyone to adopt the Declaration of Life Statement: God, and not man, is the creator of human life. Therefore, we will protect and respect the sanctity of every human life from conception to natural death. Furthermore, we recognize that the unjustified taking of life is sinful, but God gives absolution to those who ask for His forgiveness.

Anglicans for Life (formerly NOEL, the National Organization of Episcopalians for Life) is active worldwide with 75 Chapters throughout the US, the UK and Africa. If you are interested in learning about Anglicans for Life call 800-707-6635 or visit our website www.AnglicansforLife.org.
