The State Supreme Court has denied a request from State House Democratic Leaders to limit the authority of State Attorney General Tom Corbett to investigate the allegations of state funded bonuses for staffers who conducted campaign work...

President George Bush is expected to be in Lancaster County around mid-day next Wednesday, October 3rd...he reportedly will speak to an "invitation only" crowd of about 400 supporters but confirmed details will not be released until Friday...the visit comes the day after the one year anniversary of the shootings of Amish school girls...

A State Capitol event in support of proposed state legislation dealing with illegal immigration featured Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta and State Superior Court Judge Correale Stevens...Stevens - who is on the November ballot for a yes or no vote to retain his judicial position - told the news conference that local and state officials need more authority to deal with illegal aliens and that County Judges should have the power to deport them...GOP legislators at the event said they are trying to force Majority State House Democrats to bring to a vote several bills designed to address the problems...

Louis DeNaples - the embattled owner of the slots licensed Mount Airy Lodge - has withdrawn four of his proposed 5 members of an "Independent" audit group mandated by the State Gaming Control Commission...the action came after news that the proposed Members were not really "independent" of DeNaples...The Allentown Morning Call  yesterday reported a major dispute among independent consultants, the Gaming Control Board, the Pennsylvania State Police and the Rendell Administration about responsibility for criminal background checks of license applicants, vendors, employees, etc...the newspaper said the Rendell Administration sided with the Gaming Board in excluding the State Police from a major role in critical background checks...meanwhile, State Attorney General Tom Corbett is conducting a Grand Jury investigation into the licensing approval of Louis DeNaples for the Mount Airy Lodge...U.S. Attorney Tom Marino - who lent his name to DeNaples' slots license application - said on Friday that he was resigning his position on October 12 to spend more time with his family...
