AFA of PA ACTION ALERT

October 31, 2007

1.)    Voter Guide for Supreme Court and Superior Court

2.)    Philadelphia Cradle of Liberty Scout Council (COLBSA)

3.)    Pornography Awareness Week  (PAW)

1.)  Next Tuesday’s election will be mostly local races, so many will stay home because they’ll think this year it’s ‘not really important.’  Before you do that  . . . please consider the fact that next Tuesday we will be choosing two new Pennsylvania Supreme Court judges and three new Superior Court judges in addition to many other judges, county commissioners, county auditors, school board members, etc.   And that’s not even discussing the judicial retention races.  Consider:   the PA Supreme Court is Pennsylvania's highest court. In matters of law, it is the Commonwealth's court of last resort.  Since 1980 the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, like the U.S. Supreme Court, can exercise discretion in accepting or rejecting appeals, allowing it to devote greater attention to cases of far-reaching impact.  The Pennsylvania Superior Court decides appeals touching almost every aspect of life and commerce in the State, including family matters, such as child custody, visitation, adoption, divorce, and support; criminal cases; matters concerning wills and estates; property disputes; and those involving damages for breach of contract or personal injury.

Yes, next Tuesday’s election is VERY IMPORTANT!   It will be up to the voters to determine whether we have pro-abortion, pro-same-sex marriage judges or not.  The AFA of PA has produced a voter guide for the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and Superior Court races.  This is designed as a bulletin insert.  Click here for a copy.  You will need Adobe Reader.  This has been reviewed by our legal counsel and determined to be non-partisan and acceptable to be use in churches.

2.)  The Cradle of Liberty Scout Council received the rental demand notice from the City of Philadelphia – only $200,000 a year!   This is an increase of $200,000 . . . . since 1928 the City of Philadelphia has permitted the Scouts to use the half acre piece of property in downtown Philly rent free.  Click here for a timeline of the City’s attack on the Scouts.   The City Council back then recognized the good works the Scout were doing, but today’s City Council is blinded by the fact the US Supreme Court upheld the Scouts' right to ban open homosexuals and atheists from being members or leaders.  They have bowed to pressure from homosexual groups, denouncing the Scouts and now demanding the rental payment or vacating the headquarters built by the Scouts in 1929.  The dollar amount will mean the elimination of 30 new Cub Scout packs, or 800 needy kids not being able to go to the Scouts summer campGood news though . . . since word got out of the City’s decision, the city’s e-mail server crashed because of the number of e-mails sent to the mayor.  People don’t like the Boy Scouts being attacked!  Interesting that about a week after the Council’s decision on the Scouts, they unanimously voted to allow same-sex couples to be exempted from the City’s reality transfer tax.  Thus "financially interdependent persons” will not have to pay the 3 percent city tax placed on the transfer of real property between individuals.

3.)  Pornography Awareness Week runs from October 28 to November 4th.    How family-friendly is your community?  Click here for a Community Awareness Survey.
