Mother of All Tax Hikes

Last week, House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-NY) unveiled what he referred to as the “Mother of All Tax Bills” (H.R. 3970).  Republican critics quickly termed it the “Mother of All Tax Hikes,” since it includes more than $1.3 trillion in tax increases on some individuals and businesses over ten years as offsets to tax relief elsewhere in the bill.
