Court States Parental Notification Not Necessary for Abortifacient. A federal appeals court ruled that a Philadelphia health clinic did not violate a 16-year-old's rights or those of her parents when it gave her emergency contraception without notifying the couple. Randy Wenger, chief counsel for the Pennsylvania Family Institute, sees it differently. "It's not a good decision for parents, and it was not a good decision for teenagers, either," he said. "In this country, we have a very elevated view of the individual, where an individual can make whatever choice they want. Teenagers don't always make good choices." Wenger also pointed out that Pennsylvania has a law requiring parental consent before a teenager has an abortion. "The court's decision basically bypasses even the minimal safeguards the Legislature put in place," he said.

"Hate Crimes" Amendment Passes, Bush has Promised to Veto. The U.S. Senate passed a 'hate crimes' amendment to the Defense Authorization Bill that would give special legal status to homosexuals at the expense of religious freedom and rights of conscience. A voice vote was taken for the entire bill following a key vote invoking "cloture" (a procedure to limit debate and move the bill) on the Kennedy Hate Crimes Amendment 3035. PA's Senators Casey and Specter voted for hate crimes. Take action below.

Take Action!
- Read the roll call of the vote.
- Contact U.S. Senators Bob Casey, Jr and Arlen Specter through our Citizen Action Center and tell them what you think of their vote on Hate Crimes. Remind them that the Constitution guarantees justice for ALL, not a special class, and not at the expense of religious freedom and rights of conscience!
- President Bush has promised to veto this legislation. Please contact him through our Citizen Action Center and thank him for standing up for religious liberty.
